Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has reaffirmed the NRM’s commitment to unity and inclusivity, urging members who contested as independents to return to the party fold.
Tayebwa made the call during a visit to Rubirizi District, where he met party structures and worked with Rtd. Lt. Moses Mushabe, Chairperson of the NRM Veterans League, to resolve internal misunderstandings.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to the incumbent LCV Chairperson, Mr Sylvester Agubashongorera, who had been nominated as an independent, for graciously agreeing to step down and support the official flag bearer,” Tayebwa said, praising Sylvester’s humility and commitment to party cohesion.
The Deputy Speaker stressed that unity is central to the party’s strength.
“Through honest dialogue, we want them to know that the party holds them in high regard and that unity is our greatest strength,” he said.
Tayebwa also raised concerns about Rubirizi’s historically low voter turnout, recalling that the district recorded one of the lowest participation rates in 2021.
“This time, we are determined to further consolidate support while significantly increasing voter turnout,” he said, expressing confidence in the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle.
The visit was aimed at addressing internal conflicts and reinforcing party structures. Tayebwa assured NRM independents that the party remains open and welcoming to those willing to rejoin and work towards a united front.
